Empowerment in Entertainment and Why It Matters
Before becoming the Bachelorette, Rachel was a lawyer practicing civil defense litigation- sticking up for the underrepresented even before having a platform. She later became the first woman of color to be the Bachelorette. But along with that title, she had pressures hoisted on her that previous Bachelorettes did not. How did her humble journey lead her to become an iconic representative of the Black community, and was it even fair that she had to fill that role whether she wanted to or not? How did those pressures inform her behavior on the show and off?
In this moderated discussion, Rachel talks about her history in law, how it influenced her decision to go on the show, and how she used her fame after to create a platform of entertainment while educating. She also talks about diversity in the media, why representation does matter, and how things have changed so much in the short amount of time she's been a household name. Of course, she's not above dishing Bachelorette dirt too!
