American Sign Language Artist Channeling the Spirit of the Music
Brandon Kazen-Maddox (they/them) is an ASL Artist, actor, choreographer, director, acrobat, educator, and public speaker whose work celebrates the power of voice —spoken, signed, and embodied. A Grandchild of Deaf Adults (GODA) and third-generation native signer of American Sign Language, Brandon bridges Deaf and hearing worlds through performance and storytelling.
Their half-hour special SOUL(SIGNS): Making Music Visible premiered on WNET/ALL ARTS in April 2025 and continues to stream online. Brandon was featured on PBS’s Stories From The Stage, Brief But Spectacular, CNN, ABC World News, and in The New York Times and Dance Magazine.
A Creative Capital Awardee, Brandon’s ASL Dance Theatre work The Wild Party reimagines Joseph Moncure March’s 1928 poem through the expressive power of sign language, movement, and rhythm. Their autobiographical piece (FREEDOM) explores resilience and identity through ASL, dance, and aerial arts.
They are co-founder of Up Until Now Collective
