Swiss Army knife-storyteller: intersectional themes, multidisciplinary poetry

SAARET E. YOSEPH is a writer and artist who blends poetry, documentary and narrative storytelling. Her creative inquiry explores identity, migration and memory, centering the experiences of Black women across the diaspora. Saaret's work has been featured on CNN, HuffPost, Voice of America, The Root and The Ethiopian Reporter. She’s received honors and funding support from the National Endowment for the Arts, HumanitiesDC and the Poetry Foundation, among others. She released her debut poetry chapbook, a beginner's guide to endings, in December 2025. Her visual docupoem, JOURNEY(S): addis to dc, combines oral history, poetry, animation and archival imagery to honor Ethiopian women in America. Currently on tour, the project was awarded Best Experimental Film at the 2025 KITFO Film Festival in Los Angeles and last screened at the DC/DOX Festival in June 2026. Saaret's current narrative experiment, ABYSSINIA & HARLEM, is a short story turned script and story collection.
