I’m a queer typewriter poet and prize-winning author who has performed at large-scale venues, including college campuses, cultural centers and West Hollywood Pride.

Being a typewriter poet is like peeking into someone’s story, and for a moment, helping them write it. In a world of AI and online shopping, typewriter poetry is a rare space where raw spontaneous connection still exists.

As a poet, I craft memorable, immersive experiences and help people articulate what lives inside them. I’m friendly, disarming and endlessly curious about strangers.

I also come dressed for the part, which can include costumes, stage makeup and vintage clothing.

My writing style:
I specialize in haiku and contemporary poetry. My work is poignant yet relatable to wide audiences. I have 75k readers on Instagram (@poemsbysuri), and my book, But I Don’t Feel Empowered, is on shelves at Barnes & Noble and bookstores worldwide.

Other offerings:
*workshops,
*performances,
*copywriting and
*speaking.

Isle Bartend

"We recently hired Isle Bartend for one of our events and... WOW! From start to finish, Mariel and her team were exceptional. From the display, to the drinks and hospitality, we were very impressed. Mariel spent the time customizing our display for our organization with colors, a custom menu, all the way down to skewers that looked like dog toys. We will definitely be working with Mariel at Isle Bartend again! Would highly recommend!"

Arden, GOLDEN PAWS

"Isle Bartend exceeded every expectation I had. I booked them for a corporate event and everyone was thrilled. Exceptional service and amazing drinks. I cannot recommend them enough! 10/10 !"

Tiessa Hulsinger

"I can’t say enough about Mariel and the entire Isle Bartend staff. The drinks were as beautiful as they were delicious and the staff was beyond fantastic. Mariel thought of everything and made sure our daughter’s wedding was nothing short of perfection. "Marie and her team were incredible! We had them custom engrave/foil luggage tags for our company event. Everyone loved the interactive experience and the final product. Marie was fantastic to communicate with and was great about making our vision come to life - she even ordered some luggage tags from a different vendor than she normally used to make sure they matched our company colors and printed out extra instructions cards with our branding to be placed at every table! I 100% recommend Studio MCJ for any event."

Dionne Hunter is an internationally featured performance poet, award winning producer, author, speaker, live typewriter poet, and creative wellness facilitator based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her honors include the 2024 AMG Heritage Awards Spoken Word Artist of the Year, second place in the 2025 North Carolina Poetry Society Jaki Shelton Green Performance Poetry Contest, and selection as a finalist for the inaugural Poet Laureate of Charlotte position in 2022.

Dionne Hunter

Dionne is a professional with a great personality. She personalized her spoken word particularly for our event. I highly recommend her for any event. She is wonderful.

Robin E. Oden- Central State University Alumni President

Dionne Hunter was absolutely phenomenal. Her words were powerful, heartfelt, and deeply inspiring. She spoke directly to the hearts of the mothers in the room, capturing their strength, sacrifice, love, and resilience in such a meaningful way. Her delivery was moving, authentic, and unforgettable. She brought warmth, wisdom, and emotion to the program, leaving everyone encouraged and uplifted. Dionne Hunter truly made our event even more special, and we are grateful for the incredible gift she shared with us.

With 27 years as a TV anchor/reporter, Communications consultant, speech writer & coach, TEDx and keynote speaker, video production professional, and as someone who has worked directly with Dr. Maya Angelou in her home the last year of her life, I can attest to the impact, power, and performance of Dionne Hunter's on-stage speaking, performance, and professionalism compared to other speakers.
I've heard hundreds of thousands of speeches, presentations, and performances in person and on camera during my career. My expectations are high when offering my name as a recommendation, particularly when it comes to someone seeking speaker/presenter referrals. I worked intimately with Dionne through the audition process, five weeks of rehearsals, the run through, and show for This Is My Brave CharMeck and she was a leader, a team-player, creative, impactful, warm, experienced, and her final story blew us away. Everyone in the room was crying. Any organization would be fortunate to have her.

Laughing & Development is an improv workshop for teams, led by professional comedians and improvisers. Your group plays a series of fun, low-stakes improv games that get people laughing, talking and working together. No acting experience needed, and nobody has to be funny. The laughter is a byproduct of being in the moment.

We run it two ways:

Improv for Team Building
The easy way to have fun with your team. Silly, energizing, and the kind of team bonding people actually talk about afterward. Great for offsites, kickoffs and team meetings.

Improv for Professional Development
Same laughs, sharper skills. Every exercise ties back to the workplace: better listening, stronger presence, and the confidence to think fast under pressure. Great for leadership programs, sales teams and L&D days.

What to expect
- Before the event, your organizer completes a short pre-event survey about the group, the goals and anything to avoid. We pick the facilitator and tailor the session from there.
- Sessions run from a 10-minute energizer to a full-hour workshop, in person or on Zoom, Teams or Google Meet.
- Everything is workplace-friendly. The games are low-stakes, so the quietest person in the room can join in without feeling put on the spot.
- Your group leaves with a few simple tools, like "yes, and" and active listening, that they can use in their next meeting.

Why it works
A single laughter session measurably lowers cortisol, the main stress hormone (meta-analysis of 8 studies, PLOS One, 2023). Across 49 studies of 8,532 workers, positive workplace humor is tied to better performance, stronger team cohesion and less burnout (Journal of Managerial Psychology, 2012).

Who we've worked with
Laugh.Events has run comedy and improv experiences for teams at Amazon, Lowe's, Google, Meta, Spotify, Salesforce, Charter and Rutgers Business School. Founder Kevin Hubschmann spent 7 years in enterprise SaaS sales before building Laugh.Events, and has produced 500+ team events.

"I was genuinely amazed by how Katie carried herself and led the session. It uplifted our team morale in such a positive, refreshing way and brought us closer together through laughter." Clarisa W., Lowe's

"I really enjoyed how the instructor tied in every exercise with how it's important in real life and in the workplace." Jordan J., Imubit

Improv team building and professional development workshops, led by professional comedians

Laughing & Development by Laugh.Events

Your team plays a series of fun, low-stakes improv games led by a professional comedian. It's silly, it's energizing, and nobody needs to be funny or have done improv before. Built for offsites, kickoffs, holiday parties and team meetings where you want people laughing and connecting. Runs from a 10-minute energizer to a full hour. Your organizer completes a pre-event survey so we can match the right facilitator to your group.

Improv for Team Building

Same laughs, sharper skills. Your team works through improv exercises that build real workplace skills: active listening, adaptability, presence, and thinking fast under pressure. The facilitator ties every exercise back to the job, so people leave with tools they can use in their next meeting. Built for leadership programs, sales teams, new-hire cohorts and L&D days. Typically 45 to 60 minutes, tailored from a pre-event survey.

Improv for Professional Development

From the beginning, Laugh.Events was a joy to work with. They put in so much effort to make sure they curate the perfect experience for you based on your needs. The talent they provided were exceptional. I cannot wait to plan an event with them again soon.

Aysia - Industrious

We're a remote-first company, so getting three of our Customer Experience teams together in person for an offsite was a rare opportunity. Our Laugh.Events instructor, Katie, did an amazing job customizing an applied improv workshop to our group. She kept everyone engaged and got people talking across teams that don't normally work together day to day. Easy to plan on our end too. Great option if you want something beyond a standard team building activity.

Meg - Comply

We brought Laugh.Events in to kick off our district leadership retreat, with leaders from all seven of our schools and departments in the room. The applied improv session went great and was really well received – people had fun, got out of their comfort zones, and it was the perfect way to start the day. A genuinely engaging way to strengthen collaboration across our teams.

Cass - Darien Public Schools

We've worked with Laugh.Events for a few years now, across our NYC, Denver, SF, and Toronto offices plus fully virtual events for our distributed teams. They've run applied improv workshops through their Laughing & Development program, live comedy shows, and comedy gameshows for us – and their team always matches the format to the room instead of pushing one package. Booking is easy, the performers are genuinely funny and know how to read a corporate crowd. They're our go-to for team events.

We had such a great experience with Brian's photobooth rental! From start to finish, everything was smooth and easy. The setup looked amazing, the photo quality was great, and everyone had so much fun using it. It was such a fun addition to our event and gave everyone a chance to make some great memories.

I booked Halo Halo Photo Booth for my son’s 100 Day celebration, and we had such a great experience! Brian, the owner, was super helpful and easy to work with. He helped me customize the photo booth background and start screen, which added such a fun and personal touch to the event.

They offer both 4x6 and 2x6 print options, and Brian was even kind enough to give me a great deal when I decided to extend the booth for an extra hour. All of our guests had so much fun with it!

Everything was smooth and stress-free, and I would definitely use Halo Halo again for future events. Highly recommend them to friends and family!

Great experience with working with Scentonomy. We did a corporate in office event with them, and it was so easy to work with Makeba and her team. The set-up was amazing, and the event was really successful!

PDX Photo Lounge creates interactive photo and video experiences that get guests involved and put your brand in every share. Since 2008 we’ve produced more than 1,000 events and activations across the Pacific Northwest for brands including Nike, Sprite, Intel, Adobe, Snowflake, Hilton, and Campari.

Guests are transformed in real time into brand characters, high-fashion avatars, or stylized campaign art. We build custom prompts around your event theme with brand-safe image filtering, and every result is delivered instantly to guests’ phones, ready to post.

Live Photo Mosaics

Every guest photo becomes a tile in a giant mosaic that reveals a larger image, like your logo or campaign graphic. Photos are printed as stickers and guests place their own tile on the wall, watching the big picture come together throughout the event. It’s a natural team-building moment where everyone becomes part of something bigger, and you receive a high-res export of the finished mural afterward. Digital mosaic walls are also available. For the Parents as Teachers international conference, our mosaic and photo stations engaged 2,000+ attendees with 3,800+ captures over two days.

Pdx Photo Lounge

PDX Photo Lounge did an amazing job for Mondelez International's 75th Anniversary Celebration. They provided all of the fun 1950s props and helped design our photo layouts. Not only did they provide excellent photo lounge services, their roaming photographer took memorable pictures of the entire event. Thank you PDX Photo Lounge!

Christine - Graymerson Events

We had a corporate event that was a little unorganized on the timeline, and PDX Photo Lounge was incredibly accommodating and helpful when we were in a panic. They were professional, helpful, friendly, and took amazing pictures for our group. We will definitely be using them for future events in that area.

Stephanie - Sysco

PDX Photo Lounge was such a great time at the adobe creative cafe event that I attended! Easy process, great director and great quality photos. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

Mycah - Adobe

Shanti and the team at PDX Photo Lounge took our brand activation to the next level! We worked with them to design a custom trading card aligned with the purpose of a corporate event designed around building connections and networking and it was a hit. More than one attendee even said their photo was better than their professional headshots! Shanti and team took care to adjust lighting, coach attendees in positioning, and letting them review and retake photos before printing. That went a long way in making the trading cards something they were proud to keep and share. Highly recommend.

Jennifer - Tessere

Was very pleased with the Pdx Photo Lounge that we recently used during our conference. From the contracting stage to the end, they were very responsive and also had a lot of options to offer. We were really looking for a Mosaic Piece to have as part of our conference, and they definitely came through with us. Also, during the setup process, the online portal in choosing backgrounds, were really easy, along with being able to pay online. They also came through when we decided we wanted to also have Roaming Photo Booths at our Night Out event. From the beginning to end, the Pdx Photo Lounge will take care of you. Highly recommend.

WELCOME AND TAKEAWAY GIFTS

I just wanted to thank you again for your assistance last week and bearing the storm to get us our candles. They were lovely and everyone enjoyed them! It was a pleasure working with you and we will keep Wicks Nola in mind next time we are in New Orleans.

Grace Costello - Verde Events

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Wicks NOLA Candle Company to create personalized candles for a client event. I highly recommend them based on their exceptional professionalism and attention to detail. Our request was for customized candles with a specific logo and a unique scent blend that matched the theme of the event. Wicks NOLA exceeded our expectations in both aspects. The scent they crafted not only matched the event's theme perfectly but also lingered pleasantly, enhancing the ambiance of the event. I was most impressed with their turnaround time; they were prompt and met our tight schedule without compromising quality. Working with Wicks NOLA Candle Company was an absolute delight. Their commitment to delivering high-quality, customized products is evident, and they ensure a seamless process from design to delivery. I look forward to collaborating with them again on future projects and strongly recommend them to anyone looking for top-tier custom candles.

Lakeisha Craft - Give Me NOLA

First off, I chose them after hearing they were one of Oprah's Favorite Things. I purchased a variety of her fragrances, in candle form, room spray and diffuser to try them out. And after loving them, especially New Orleans Lady and Lower Ninth Ward scents, we chose Wicks Nola for our big event. We ended up having a very short window from order to event date. But, WN's customer service was understanding AND delivered. They went above and beyond and I would absolutely recommend them for all candle and fragrance needs with no reservation.
